Earplugs?

Would it be a terrible thing if I wore these on a regular basis?  Lately, my kids will not stop talking.  Ever.  Not for a minute, unless they are playing Wii.  It’s almost driven me to have a nervous breakdown, or at least develop a tic.  Sometimes I think they do it just because they know it aggravates me.  Other times, I know they are specifically seeking attention, but come ON.  One person only has so much to give!  I seem to be especially sensitive to the girls’ incessant chatter at the moment, which makes sense since they are in my class.  There IS such a thing as too much togetherness.  I cannot wait until Thanksgiving break so that they can talk to the grandparents and I can sneak off to enjoy some quiet.

  • You ARE a good mom; that does not mean you can’t get fed up! Maybe you can start sending them all away from you at some point in the afternoon (every afternoon) so that you can be truly alone and noise-free for a few minutes. My kids know that when Mommy says it’s coffee time (usually around 4 pm), they’d better find something to do that does not and will not involve me, preferably upstairs or outside! Then I read, or look at a catalog or magazine, or snarf chocolate, or just stare numbly into the distance…if they mess with me I say, “Affix oxygen mask to your own mouth and nose before assisting other passengers.”

  • I understand, been there myself. I’ve always thought that moms who are teachers must feel SO drained by the end of the day – you give the best of yourself to your students all day, and then come home to your own children who love you and rightfully want your attention. You’re right, a woman only has so much to give! Hang in there. You’re doing an awesome job, and I can’t even imagine how tired you must be! I’m going to try to remember to pray for this for you each day – that you would get a few quiet minutes SOMEwhere and that you would be refreshed in your spirit. Drink deeply from the Word – source of life and strength – when you can; and meditate on a quick verse when you can’t. Know you are loved and prayed for, friend!

  • Hey girl!
Cool website and blog. You are so awesome. I wish I could only make it look easy like you do. I hear the chatter and I only have one child. Only, it seems I am the one chattering…by repeating myself three or four times asking my only child to do something. You are outnumbered but it seems you are still doing a great job. I haven’t seen any of your kids wondering the streets alone without clothes or food so it’s all good, right? Feel free to blog about your running. I keep hoping that you inspiring me would actually inspire my legs to get me up and get walking…at least.
