Just Another Tender Moment

Little R sidled up to hubby the other day, just itching to be silly and playful with dad.  He climbed up into his lap and tried to tickle hubby, then moved on to poking and prodding him in the eyes, ears and nose.  You know, the usual drill.  He became very interested in hubby’s mouth and started poking his finger into it while hubby pretended to be a snapping turtle or alligator, or some other biting creature.  R flubbered his lips (yes, that is a word – in my world) and tried to grab his tongue.  R giggled of course and hubby laughed right along with him in an exaggerated way.

The laughter increased and R became truly tickled.  He was chuckling and almost snorting with glee, which of course made hubby laugh harder.  Neither of them could stop laughing.

Finally, hubby had to ask what was so funny and R cheerfully replied, “Those are my stinky fingers!”  hee hee hee hee

Now why would a three year old have stinky fingers?  Playing outside in the dirt?  Peeling an onion?  (No, we don’t allow him to use the sharp knives.)  Perhaps he picked up something gross off the floor…

Hubby had to ask.  He just HAD to know.  When will he learn?  You would think that a man with four small tornadoes living in his house would be able to see this one coming a mile away.  But no…

“Why are those your stinky fingers?”

A big fat grin on his face, “Because I’ve been digging in my hiney!!!”

Ohhhhh, how I wish I had been there.
