A Little Kinder

I cannot believe it has been 6 years since 9/11.  The time is marked easily for me since my oldest was born one month after the Twin Towers went down.

Remember the rush of humanity that followed?  Volunteers from all walks of life converged on NYC and every area of the country was besieged by blood drives, prayer vigils and the like.

Sadly, although not unexpectedly, we have all fallen back into our routines and patterns.  Our worries consist of celebrity gossip instead of our fellow man.  We simply aren’t making every day count.  Imagine if everyone were just a little bit kinder.  Took a little more time to help someone else.  Stopped rushing about and slowed down long enough to appreciate the people around them.

My Good Deed is a website that allows you to become inspired and reach out to people in need.  It encourages volunteerism and ways of thinking of others.  I would hope that it would serve as a reminder to continue acts of kindness on a regular basis instead of just one day each year.

Go sign up.  Make a pledge, big or small to do something for someone else.

  • Thanks for the reminder! Just like the Israelites, we forget so quickly and fall back into our selfish ways.

  • Poignant.

I remember that day after the fourth hour of being glued to my TV, I was desperately trying to find something redeeming rise from the ashes of the WTC, the Pentagon and in that field in rural Pennsylvannia.

I believe I saw the Phoenix…at least, I wanted to believe I did.

I wrote about it in my blog , too.

I’ll never forget the significance of Septemeber 11th.

I can’t even see the date of November 22nd without thinking of a young president, his lovely First Lady, an easier, more innocent time and the cold, windy day in Dallas that seemed to stop time, progress and life as we knew it.

  • Yes, we have to remember, but not dwell on the details of it so much that we sink down in depression . It’s such a fine line to walk. I’m glad there were many songs written in remebrance b/c all I have to do is hear a slight reminder and I am right back to that day…where I was teaching a class full of innocent children as a first year teacher myself.
