The Monday after my surgery, I laidon the couch waiting for my parents to bring the children home.  I was still feeling a lot of discomfort and was taking pain meds and resting.  The children burst in the door excitedly and the reunion lasted several minutes until they decided they were more interested in some toys in the next room.  That is, everyone but R.

He walked over to the desk and methodically dragged a chair all the way over to the couch where he planted it right beside my head.  He then proceeded to climb up, park his bottom on it, insert one wrinkly thumb into his mouth and rub my arm.  He stayed there, keeping watch over me while I slowly felt my eyelids closing.

My mom later said he sat there for over an hour, rubbing my arm, sucking his thumb and watching whatever non kid friendly show was playing.

My sweet, sweet boy.

  • Oh wow..what a sweetheart! Jae does this when I’m sick, or crying, or upset for whatever reason. She rubs my arm or back and says “mommy okay?”. She even rubbed my head while I was hovered over the toilet one morning.

He must’ve learned this from you. We all know you’re the sweetest! :)
